Many Christian leaders believe that denominations, if they stay in their present state, have a limited future. Robert Thornton Henderson reveals that a return to the foundation upon which the Presbyterian Church was begun could be viable for the present and in years to come. This book not only evangelizes Presbyterians, but calls for a return to the statements of reformed tradition upon which the Presbyterian Church was based. Henderson says that the Presbyterian Church must define that which is sine qua non of its life and witness, and he opens up three major areas that are absolutely essential: (1) the focus on God's mission to his lost creation in Christ; (2) the focus on Christ, who is God's Good News; and (3) the focus on reformed thought on the sovereign good purpose of God. Robert Thornton Henderson is a graduate of Davidson College and Columbia Theological Seminary, and has done special studies in apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary. He pastored Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) congregations in North Carolina and Louisiana for forty years, primarily those in university settings. For the past seven years he has served as Director of Seminary Ministry for Presbyterians for Renewal. He is also associate editor of Catalyst, a journal for seminarians, and has written extensively about evangelism and congregational renewal. Henderson currently lives in Tucker, Georgia, with his wife, Betty Colburn Henderson. The Hendersons have four children and four grandchildren.
