Dr Naylor argues that the traditional link between 'high Calvinism' and 'restricted communion' is in need of revision. He examines Baptist communion controversies from the late 1600s to the early 1800s and also the theologies of John Gill and Andrew Fuller. Looking at the English Baptist churches from the later 1600s until the early 1800s, Calvinism, Communion and the Baptists stresses that the English Calvinistic Baptists were a denomination other than that of the 'General' Baptists and that most Baptists, irrespective of party line, were de facto 'Strict Baptists'.
