Over the last 75 years there have been numerous books and articles written about Baron Manfred von Richthofen, Germany's highest scoring fighter ace of World War I, not only about his life, but also of his death. This book deals with the men he shot down. Aviation historian and writer Norman Franks, has combined his knowledge and skills with military historians Hal Gilbin and Nigel McCrery to produce an up-to-date reference book covering the 123 men von Richthofen is reputed to have brought down while amassing his score of 80 victories over Allied aircraft between September 1916 and April 1918. Here, completed backgrounds of the men he fought and accounted for in the air battle are documented. The later lives of those who survived the encounter with the Red Baron are also reported.
