In this 2007 edition of their book, Bobb Biehl and Ted Engstrom do an excellent job in this resource of giving practical advice and help for board members of non-profit organizations, particularly churches. It provides insight for both the board chair and the board member. The advice is always practical, sort of like this "If you cannot give your committee's report in 5 minutes or less, your committee has not yet completed its work," and proceed to give advice on how to streamline the work of committees and task forces, and the important elements in successful committee reports. What if Church boards stayed focused and on task, how much more quickly could the meetings be completed? Biehl and Engstrom give this kind of practical advice. I use this valuable book as handy "desk reference" for board leadership and membership.
