Why deal with the topic of Growing a Wise Family? Two reasons come to mind: 1. The family is under constant assault from every possible angle: secular humanism; immoral entertainment; progressive government; politically correct educators; anti-God and anti-family media. 2. A solid Christian family committed to God and His will does not happen by accident. It begins as a tender shoot that will either thrive by God's Word and the Holy Spirit's oversight, or it will dry up and become a brittle and self-focused group of individuals. Did you know that God appears to have written the book of Proverbs mainly with young people in mind? He understands the specific challenges that boys and girls face every day, and lovingly wrote a book with which they can identify. God's great love and concern for young people is expressed throughout the wide variety of proverbs--He desires boys and girls to make wise choices every day. He knows they will only be successful in living joyful, satisfying lives when they follow His advice. So, think of these proverbs like road signs along a freeway that say: Men Working! Bridge Out! Sharp Curve Ahead! Normally, an author will ask a well-known person to write a Foreword for their book as an endorsement. Instead of doing that, I asked our three married children to write a few lines on what a family devotional time meant to them as they grew up, and what it means in their own families now.
